Fred's
FAQ
Subject: Handguard replacement
Fred asked me to respond to your question about handguard removal on the M14. First, you do not have to mess with the gas cylinder, at all.
Once the rifle is out of the stock, turn it over and, with a small
screwdriver, pry the handguard metal clip at the rear of the handguard off the barrel on one side, then do the other side. The handguard can then be removed without further effort.
To put the new one on: slide the front lip of the HG into the band until it is fully seated, then simply press the rear of the handguard down onto the barrel until it snaps into place. PS: if you
will put a little high-tem RV silicone sealer on the front lip of the
handguard, thereby glueing it into the front band, accuracy will be improved.
