1 Jan 02: THIS YEAR, PUT AMERICA FIRST

Yes sir, it’s a brand, spanking new, year. One year closer to the liberal gunless millennium. Yet still a blank tablet on which you can make your mark. While you still have lingering patriotic feelings, this New Year - it’s still not too late - give the gift of freedom to your country. At least make a stab at freeing your fellow Americans from the tyranny of the liberal media. Make resolutions, resolutions which you keep.
After all, what is the choice?
You could do nothing - exactly what you have been doing for the last 10, 20, or 30 years.
If you do nothing, Sarah Brady will smile on you as a friend. Ted Kennedy will wonder why you have to go to jail - after all, you’ve been so helpful... Chuck will laugh about what a gullible fool you are. Even King George’s military aide, the one who assured his king that with a regiment of British Regulars, he could march from one end of the Colonies to the other, gelding all the males, some with force, the rest with a little persuasion, they were such worthless fools - even he would see the joke, and enjoy the last laugh.
Or you could turn over a new leaf - you know, this being the first year of the rest of your life and all - a traditional time to take stock of where you are, where you want to go - and make resolutions to help you get there.
Resolutions can work. Way back in 1989, Fred resolved to break the ice and shoot at Camp Perry for the first time. And he did. Showed up at the gate, not knowing at thing, and had the best time of his life. So resolutions are worth making. They give you the impetus to overcome inertia and get moving!
      Try this list of resolutions:
      1. Learn to shoot, not just like anyone, but like a Rifleman, so you are prepared for anything.
     2. Get some friends and neighbors into shooting. When they become riflemen, shoot as a team, and think and talk about ‘what if...’
     3. Start cleaning up your corner of the country. Does your spouse understand the importance of the Bill of Rights and freedom and guns? Do your children understand, and are they well-trained shooters? Is anybody in your house watching CNN, ABC, NBC or CBS? Stop that immediately, cancel your newspaper and weekly newsmagazines, and subscribe to the Washington Times [800-363-9118]. Get people under your roof listening to Rush Limbaugh’s daily educational & entertaining news analysis program.
     4. Write letters to your newspaper editor - not ALL the time, but maybe one a quarter. The first’ll be hard, but the more you write, the easier you’ll find them to be.
      5. Write “1-minute letters” to your reps, educating them on the 2nd and the Bill of Rights, using the JPFO booklets freely. Do this one as often as once a month. Addresses: Senator XYZ, US Senate, Wash, DC 20510 and Representative ABC, US House of Representative, Wash, DC 20515.
     6. Start getting ready for the fall election, getting your group together to work as a team finding out who to vote for, putting up yard signs, signing up gunowners to vote, etc.
     7. Donate to COA [Update: sorry to say, the founders of this group have given up - too few donations - and too bad, it was a good thing for gunowners, and poor judgement on their part to let it die for want of encouragement] - CITIZENS OF AMERICA runs aggressive, emotionally hard-hitting PRO-GUN RIGHTS advertising on radio, in print, and on cable television. Learn more at: www.citizensofamerica.org. Supporting them is part of cleaning up the country, not just your corner of it.
     8. Become a Paul Revere. Paul didn’t hang around Boston on the night of April 18, 1775, cussing the lazy ignorant American people. Heck no, he got on his horse and rode out to sound the alarm, to wake them up to the threat, to educate them that tonight is the night, that the morning will see a new day. You can do that. Be a bearer of glad tidings to everyone you see. Term limits? Get out and vote, get your friends out to vote, and make sure they know who to vote for: The bad guys will soon find out what term limits is really about. This is an election year - not for president, which you think is important, but for congress, those people you trust with your life, liberty and property.
“Whoa, Fred!” you say. “That’s a pretty busy schedule to pile on to an already crowded life.”
In that case, sweep your life free of what’s NOT important, so you have time for the important.
If you are working more than 40 a week, and expect to be doing it indefinitely, find another job. This is America. You don’t need to work more than 40 to support yourself and your family. The extra money isn’t going to do you any good if you have lost your freedoms.
So, sweep the decks clear, and prepare for action. Action which will be effective in fighting our common enemy: the liberals who want to take it all away from you. The same people - the elites - the King’s Men - who tried to stop you in 1775-83. The ones who hate the freedoms, the tradition, the country, because they don’t like them, and because they believe they are superior, you have to do what they say.
If you want a perspective on this country as she presently stands, consider William Shirer’s comments on the impact of the Nazi media on Germans.
Shirer experienced the full force of it, returning to Nazi Germany from a short trip to Switzerland, immediately assaulted by a media feeding the German people misinformation on a daily basis. They believed it, despite common-sense contradictions. Shirer makes it clear: going into the atmosphere created by the media in Nazi Germany was wading into a cesspool.
Likewise, we have in this country now a media united in liberalism. We might as well have loudspeakers on every street corner, spouting the party line. [And we do, in an even more important gathering place. Notice how those CNN receivers suffuse every airport waiting area, 24 hours a day?]
It’s a steady diet of uncontradicted liberalism. No wonder the average doofus American too lazy or too busy to get the real facts is taken in by it all.
No wonder he thinks guns are dangerous, the 2nd an obsolete relic of the War for Independence.
All the liberal media lack is the morning meeting of the editors with Joseph Goebbels to set the agenda for the day.
They don’t need it, because, originating from the left, they already have self-trained themselves to adhere to the party line, to march in lockstep. They know in advance the position on every issue, and, if there is any doubt, there is the Washington Post or the NY Times to check. [Or for that matter, the CNN telly in their office.]
One set of facts you can always count on the press to omit: any criticism of the press. Occasionally “bias” comes up; there is extended ‘self-examination’ until they conclude - surprise! - they are not biased, not at all.
Conservative politicians miss a big opportunity when they don’t charge bias with every appearance on the air. And not just charge bias, but speak of it as a ‘done deal’, as tho the issue is not ‘is there bias?’ but is, there is bias, and what are we doing about it?
There’s not a Republican, a conservative, a gun owner, a big corporation, who will not be criticized for taking the next breath, but those big media corporations are off the list for any criticizing.
Who will watch the watchers? Well, we know the answer to that one. They are not going to do it.
So, it’s up to you. No, up to us.
Let me tell you: The Founders of this country, if told how to donate a few bucks in the possibility of swaying minds so that eight years of blood and suffering would be avoided, would have jumped at the chance to donate those bucks to COA’s airwaves program.
Would that the Jews in Nazi Germany had had the same chance. Don’t you think that, if they could turn the clock back, and donate money to break the Nazis, and avoid all those death camps and medical experiments, they would jump at the chance to do it?
That’s why #7 on the list of resolutions is so important.
Remember liberal media double-think: “We love the First, but we hate the Second, which is not really a right at all, except for the National Guard.” It’s alive and well, rewriting the Constitution in the liberal image. [If you wanna know about doublethink, read Orwell’s 1984.]
So, friends, in your resolutions, put American first. Put those freedoms you hold so dear ahead of everything else.
Get to be a rifleman. Get your friends and neighbors into shooting. Donate to the COA media campaign. Write/educate your reps. Get ready for the election. Make ‘em resolutions.
This year, set aside your daily distractions, and put America first.

THE RIFLEMAN'S POP QUIZ
Taken from the latest edition of Fred’s “Guide to Becoming a Rifleman”, let’s see if you can answer it:
     6. The toughest job facing a rifleman in the field is:
          a. Target detection.
     b. Estimating the range.
      c. Firing an accurate shot.
     d. Moving without being detected.
The correct answer requires you to think - like a rifleman.

“Lightyears ahead of the army...”
Hey Fred: Just an fyi, I just got back from a 6+ mile hike in the desert with my K9 and my ar15. LBV and patrol pack.
I shot 226 with those excellent [AQT] tar-gets. I'm a bit rusty. I'll do a witnessed qualification in December when my Marine and Coast Guard sons are home on leave for Xmas. Your superb rifleman guidelines are lightyears ahead of the Army. I am going to pick up a FAL bullet launcher in January. My Marine son Ryan is stationed at Camp Lejeune. I have advised him to drop by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association and join. I am hoping he will pick up a good .308 rifle and get serious with it. It looks like his unit may be heading over to Afghanistan soon. Enough said. Molon-Labe! SH, CW3, USA, (ret.)

Always glad to hear from a rifleman. A guy who shoots 226/250 on the AQT while he’s “a bit rusty” is a heck of shot!

RIFLEMAN FIELD MANUAL ON THE WEB
Fred - In the 1 Sept. issue of SGN you referred us readers to a web site to download the Army Infantry Squad Field Handbook [http://155.217. 58.58/cgi-bin/ atdl.dll/fm/7-8/toc.htm]. That book is good but I looked further on the Army Training Web site and found what I would value much more is the FM23-10, Sniper Training! Check it out, great info. www. adtdl.army.mil/cgi-bin/atdl.dll/fm/23-10/toc.htm Thanks, Al PS Keep up the great column in Shotgun News!
